Imagine that! CEOs learn to be more human, have in-depth, substantive conversations with their employees, and it improves their business and employee morale. This is the promise of what Social Media done correctly inside organization can do too. Something as simple as a Executive Blog or an employee forum can start these same types of conversations – ones that lead to big, meaningful change. You don’t need a camera crew to follow around your CEO for a week to spark this kind of change.
I have to admit that I love the somewhat cheesy CBS show, Undercover Boss. It has a very simple premise. CEO or Executive goes undercover for 1 week, sees their company from the ground up, learns a lot, and returns with a new perspective and maybe even vision for the company.
If you watch a few, they all seem to have the same formula. CEOs are shocked at what they learn about how their companies are actually run. They almost all walk away with a more profound appreciation for and renewed sense of commitment to their entry-level people. And, they are fundamentally changed as people. My favorite Undercover Boss episode follows an executive from 7-11.
This show has actually helped many of the brands on the show. The big brands: 7-11, White Castle, and Hooters got a Brand Buzz Bump, and some even had a permanent lift. Take a look at this article from BrandWeek.
