Swati Gohri: Design Is Her Way of Life
December 2018 Consultant of the Month
Swati Gohri is thinking design all the time. It’s in her system. A way of life. Specializing in graphic and user experience (UX) design, she’s part of EM Marketing’s team of seasoned designers that have the experience to handle jobs of any size, complexity, and range.
Currently, Swati freelances for Cohesity. Her clients can always rely on her to be creative, productive, and efficient. Of course, that’s what’s needed for this fast-paced startup. Speaking of range, her Cohesity portfolio consists of collateral, trade show booth graphics, web banners, and whitepapers. Swati has also designed graphics for an internal vending machine that dispenses IT supplies. You name it, she can deftly handle the job.
Swati has helped in the process of Cohesity’s rebranding efforts. She loves working with a vibrant green color that stands out in the crowd of tech companies. The company not only receives industry accolades but gets instant recognition through its striking visual brand.
It’s All in the Family – Traditional Art to New Tech
Design is truly part of Swati’s life, and it goes way back. Her father is a fine artist. “Whenever people ask me about my experience, I actually got into this field because of him,” she says. “Since the beginning, I was given that environment where art was all over my house.” She was inspired by his paintings and other works of art that surrounded her. They have wonderful conversations where he teaches her about fine art and they discuss how technology influences her work. Her father muses about how a computer can quickly and easily replicate art brushes and techniques.
Coincidentally, Swati graduated from the top fine art university in India. She established herself professionally in India in various graphic design roles. For Ernst & Young, she grew from an individual contributor to managing and leading projects. After marrying her husband, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. The energy here really moved her. “You hear so much about the big tech companies. I was inspired by seeing the campuses and interacting with people.”
Knowing that trends and technology change so fast, she also educated herself in UX design at UC Santa Clara and UC Berkeley Extension. “UX excites me. It’s not just the design part, which is, in fact, the last in the process. Coming up with an idea and creating that whole journey for the user, we have to wear multiple hats,” she says. Swati is looking for the right UX design opportunity to knock on her door.
Awe and Wonder Brings Design to Life
Visuals are constantly a part of her life. In her free time, Swati enjoys home decorating, matching colors and fixtures to create a pleasing environment. What’s awe-inspiring is the view from her window, facing the water. When working from home, she sees sunrises on her right and ends the day with sunsets on her left.
Swati and her husband love traveling. They’ve recently focused on Wonders of the World — Machu Picchu, Taj Mahal, Stonehenge, and Christ the Redeemer Statue are a few they’ve checked off their list. As a designer, she notices details perhaps others do not. The remarkably organized lines of Machu Picchu’s stones and the Nazca Lines geoglyphs etched into desert sands that you can only see from a bird’s eye view. The cool, calm, meditative feeling you get when taking in the white, bright, majestic Taj Mahal.
Marketers want their brands to project an image and create an emotional response. Swati is proficient in creating impactful visuals and knows the design is indeed in the details.
