Meet Kevin Cranfill: A Curious, Collaborative Creative with Content to Burn
Editor’s Note: This is the seventeenth in our We are EM (Monkeys Are People Too) series.
The Wordsmith You Don’t Have Time To Be
Need a tagline? Fifteen fresh pages of website copy? How about a last-minute TV script for next week’s shoot? Kevin Cranfill can help. With more than 15 years of advertising/marketing experience under his belt, as both a copywriter and creative director, Kevin has written for nearly every medium imaginable, in a wide range of spaces. He believes a perfect sentence is a perfect thought, and that the right combination of words can help any company cut through the clutter and achieve its core marketing objectives. He’s been helping clients do just that for years.
Midwestern By Birth, Curious By Nature
Born in Indianapolis, raised just outside of Chicago, Kevin’s Midwest roots are reflected in his determined work ethic. An English major in college, language was always the answer. The question was what kind of writing he would pursue for a living? Advertising paid a solid wage, and Kevin quickly learned the industry gave him an opportunity to learn bits and pieces about any number of different industries. This helped satisfy his avid curiosity. The business also allowed him to collaborate with a talented network of professionals. Writing is a solitary activity, but Kevin is a people person.

Hooked on Words, Addicted to Outcomes
Kevin is passionate about learning. This enthusiasm shows in the writing he produces, which he judges not by how clever it is but by the results it produces. Kevin shoots for “staying power” with his work, whether it’s distilling the essence of a brand into a simple email signature or fleshing out a company’s mission in a corporate video, a forty-page annual report, or a newly launched web site. As a copywriter, as a creative director, he believes the cleaner the communication, the more effective it will be.
Time Off: Working To Live Or Living To Work? (Yes.)
Kevin loves to travel, explore new places, try new foods, meet people, and learn new languages. He believes every new experience he has gives him a new source of inspiration to draw from in his work. They make him better at his job. He and his wife have fallen in love with the Bay Area, and not just because they were married here nearly a decade ago. They spend their free time hiking, biking, dining out, and being stupefied by Northern California’s spectacular beauty. Kevin is also working on a novel, titled Waiting To Turn Left. Some day, he might even finish it.
